One of the first flowers to bloom in the late Winter and very early Spring, Hellebore (also called Lenten Rose) are the very cold hardy and can be grown from zone 3-9.  They like shade to part shade and fertile, evenly moist soil.  These perennials are very easy to keep once established and are deer and rabbit resistant with a very long flowering period.
