Poppy Root (Oriental)
Open June 1 for pre ordering for delivery/shipping in October
Oriental Poppies (Papaver Orientale) are perennial and sold as bare roots. They take two to three years to get established and prefer full sun. Will bloom in late Spring and die back with the heat of the Summer and it's important to water sparingly at this point. With the cool weather in Fall they will produce new green growth again. If you accidentally break off a section of root when planting your Poppy, no matter how small, don't throw it away, plant it and it will grow. Oriental Poppies will bloom for decades, getting larger as they mature. Dividing should be done in the Fall every 5-10 years. Deer and rabbit resistant. Click on each picture for more information.
ADDITIONALLY CHECK OUT OUR "POPPY SEED" TAB IN SHOP:
Breadseed Poppies (Papaver Somniferum) that produce an abundance of seeds that can be used in baking. And Shirley Poppies (Papaver Rhoeas) which are great for mass "wildflower" type plantings. Sold in seed packets and are annual flowers but re-seed themselves very easily.
Check the tab on Flower Care for planting instructions.
